A Persian legend says that pearls were created when a rainbow met the earth after a storm and imperfections in a pearl's appearance were the result of thunder and lightning. The ancient Japanese believed that Pearls are tears of mythical creatures like angels and mermaids. In Western cultures, the pearl has astrological associations with the planet Venus. Like pearls, the goddess of Love came from the sea.
